Patricia Laligant Gallery is pleased to present the first solo exhibition of Marc-Antoine Dupont, French-American photographer and event designer.

After 9/11, the entertainment industry drastically slowed down in New York City, and Dupont started taking photography classes at the School of Visual Arts concentrating on the exploration of darkroom techniques, and the realization of images without using a camera.

Since then, Dupont has been continuously developing his own technique and vision. As a result, a series of large colored abstract photograms came to life. These photograms were created by carefully arranging pieces of plastic on top of light-sensitive paper, which then was exposed to light. Covered areas of the paper remained light in tone while exposed areas darkened. The artist often uses multiple exposures, which produce an intriguing variety of movements and create depth. Dupont has achieved spectacular results with rich color variations and dynamic compositions. His colors not only have depth and luminescence but also contribute to the fluidity of the composition.

Dupont’s photograms may look “computerized”, but they were realized exclusively with traditional photographic techniques.

Artists and photographers from Man Ray and Moholy-Nagy to Adam Fuss have enjoyed this medium for its process as well as its expressive unique qualities.

Marc-Antoine Dupont was born in 1965 in France. He currently lives and works in New York City.
